Averill is coming…

DBJames_Averill_1600px[5386]

BLURB:

Wishes and dreams were two things Averill was always taught to not put too much stock in, but here she is, just days away from marrying her childhood crush. Everything is perfect—that is, if you don’t count the unwanted (but loved) houseguest, her delay in asking her father to give her away, the grueling task of unraveling the mystery behind Rhys’ letters, and the looming feeling that something is missing in her life.

When it finally hits her just what it is, she knows she’ll have an uphill battle to get everyone on board. They’ll say it’s too soon, will say she’s insane, but she knows it’s what she wants.

She’s just hoping Rhys will too.

Rhys News

It’s been ages since I’ve updated y’all.

I feel horrible.

My excuse is valid though.

I’ve been writing.

Rhys is in my beta-readers hands as I type. He’ll be off to my editor on Monday. My cover is done and it’s stunning. When my lovely designer Megan over at Mischievous Designs, sent me a sneak peak, I was speechless. All I sent her in reply was one word… Dude. It’s hard to render me speechless. Anyone who knows me will tell you how much I love to talk. But my girl Megan has outdone herself yet again.

I. Can’t. Wait. To. Show. You.

And I will. Soon-ish.

The official release date for Rhys is February 23rd.

I’ll have pre-order links and more info to follow in a week or so. Maybe sooner.

If you’d like to add him to your Goodreads shelf you can do so by following this link. → bit.ly/goodreadsRhys

Indie Author Spotlight, Teagan Hunter

Any-who… She was kind enough to stop by and answer a few questions for you. YAY!

♦♦♦Stay tuned until the end of this post for a #GIVEAWAY for a kindle set of 4 books♦♦♦

1. What’s it like being married to a Marine?

Entertaining. Difficult. Exhausting. Amazing. Take your pick. Because of his job, it’s incredibly difficult to make plans and to stick with them, so that part gets obnoxious rather quickly. I also don’t get to see him as often as I’d like, especially since he is stateside and works just a few minutes from home. But, I wouldn’t trade any of it for anything. This experience has been amazing and it’s made our strong bond even stronger.

2. Which of your characters do you relate to the most? Why?

Rae, because what the fuck is a filter? Second would be Haley.

3. When writing, I have to listen to music. It’s an absolute must for me. The TV has to be off and I can only have certain types of artists playing. What are your writing quirks?

This varies from book to book. When I wrote Here’s to Tomorrow, it mainly happened at Starbucks while only listening to a band called Transit (they are frequently mentioned in the novel). For Here’s to Yesterday, I primarily listened to Mayday Parade and worked at Starbucks exclusively. For Here’s to Forever, I wrote when/wherever I could. Here’s to Now was…yeah. That book was so hard to write. So, I guess my long-winded answer is that I don’t have many quirks. I write where I feel comfortable with music that puts me in the mood. Oh, and I always have a cup of coffee nearby.

4. Who has been your biggest inspiration?

Writing wise? Colleen Hoover (that hurts to type). She’s this giving, amazing, selfless woman, and I truly admire that. She doesn’t forget where she came from and she doesn’t hold herself in higher standards to anyone. Her career is calm and real. I love that.

In general? My husband. He knows why.

5. Since publishing your first novel, what has been your biggest reader compliment? Toughest criticism?

I get a lot of compliments on my snark and how real/relatable my characters are. I think the toughest criticism would be the same. Further proof that not everyone reads the same books. 😉

6. If you could trade places with any fictional character who would it be and why?

Any? It doesn’t have to be one of mine, right? Layken Cooper. Why? Because she’s married to Will Cooper and I’d love a piece of that.

7. What are two things readers would be surprised to know about you?

Um…I don’t know. This is hard because I’m pretty much an open book. Maybe that I’ve worked behind the scenes in the industry for 6 years. I suppose something else would be that I did not start watching Supernatural when it premiered in 2005. I’ve only been watching it since 2012.

I met a man today…

I met a man today from Syria.

I’ve had a disastrous trip back to Michigan. If it could happen, it’s happened. Anyway I’m flying back to Orlando today, less than 24 hours later.

My hotel offered a shuttle service back to the airport so I took them up on the offer.

My driver was from Syria but he didn’t tell me, at least not at first.

As we were leaving the hotel parking lot, we saw a drag queen, in full drag getting into her car. My driver said, “God Bless America, land of the free.” His comment led to our conversation about how lucky we Americans are. I said how sad the CBS Evening News makes me daily, when I see the war images from Syria. My driver got real quiet and took a moment to collect himself.

He then said the words that gave me pause.

“I’m from Syria.”

We continued to talk about how he ended up here in the U.S. He’s been here for nearly 10 years himself but he’s the only one in his family to be here. All of them are still in Syria. He hasn’t spoken to his brother in three weeks now. He can’t get a hold of him and fears the worst. He’s family lived in Aleppo. They fled for safety from the city over a year ago but he’s unsure where he’s brother is. He doesn’t know if any of his family will live to see tomorrow. They’re in a camp on the outskirts of Aleppo.

This man who is in our country and is now legally a citizen of the United States, gave me insight on the war in Aleppo unlike anything the news has given me. And trust me the picture the news paints is horrible. Nightmare worthy. I cried with this man for his family and prayed with him for them. I prayed for him. I prayed for his home country. His birthplace. A place that some people in positions of power (cough cough, the president elect) says breeds terrorist. This man wasn’t a terrorist. He was kind, humble, not racist, open minded when it came to the drag queen, and thankful to be free.

As my ride was over and he handed me my suitcase, I hugged him and he hugged me back. He thanked ME for being so lovely. For praying for his family.

As I sit here waiting for my flight back to Florida, I can’t help but think of this man and his family. If you’re the praying sort, please pray for his country tonight. Pray that someday they find peace.
